"Fierce and Quiet: Experiencing God's Love in Everyday Moments"

Have you ever taken time to think about how we use the Five senses to experience the wonder and love of God?

WONDER:
Lately, I have been in awe of God’s fierce and quiet love for me. I say fierce because He doesn’t let go, He fights for me, He’s relentless in His pursuit of me. I say quiet because He is gentle, gracious, kind and patient as I work out becoming more like Him. I love being reminded of all the ways He shows me His love.

He shows us everyday reasons we have to stand in awe of Him.

“Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world be in awe of him.” Psalm 33:8
“Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders.” Exodus 15:11

Using my five senses, I started to make a list. It was a good way to not spiral or doomscroll when I couldn’t sleep. Here is some:

TASTE:
The sweetness of watermelon on a hot summer day.
An amazing chocolate cake.
A comforting cup of hot coffee or tea in the morning.
A delicious plate of spaghetti and meatballs.
“Oh, taste and see the LORD is good!” Psalm 34:8a
“My son, eat honey, for it is good, and the drippings of the honeycomb are sweet to your taste.” Proverbs 24:13

SIGHT:
The sunrise and the sunset.
A face that lights up when they see you.
Stars, moon, rivers, animals, clouds, flowers, mountains, deserts…all of it! WOW!
Waves during a storm.
“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” Psalm 19:1
“He is your praise. He is your God, who has done for you these great and terrifying things that your eyes have seen.” Deuteronomy 10:21

HEAR:
A child’s laugh/friends laughing.
A rushing river or waterfall.
The call of whales to eachother.
“I love you.”
Birds.
The quiet after a snowfall.
The crunch of your first step in the freshly fallen snow.
“Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let the trees of the forest sing for joy.” Psalm 96:11-13
“Give to the Lord the glory of his name. Worship the Lord in holy beauty.” Psalm 29:2

SMELL:
That wonderful “baby smell”.
Brownies baking.
Fallen leaves in the woods.
Campfire.
The ocean.
"For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing."2 Corinthians 2:15.
“Let my prayer be counted as incense before you, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.” Pslam 141:2

TOUCH:
Rubbing baby hair fuzz.
The softness of a perfectly worn-in flannel shirt.
Petting Tali.
Seaglass smoothed by the ocean.
Holding a hand.
A hug.
“Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him and said to him. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be healed!’ Instantly the leprosy disappeared, and the man was healed.” Mark 1:41-42
“Jesus took the children in his arms. He put his hands on them and blessed them.” Mark 10:16

Take a few minutes today and write out your own list of how you use your five senses to experience God and His creation.

We have a personal and creative God that made us and His creation with care and love.
You are unique and we need you to be who God created you to be!

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
Psalm 139:14

Have the most amazing day Beloved of God!
We think you are awesome!!!
